Hey All!
So Sweet Nightmare’s visual guy John has been working on his debut novella over the last year or so and FINALLY got to the point where he is about to publish. So our question is…would you like a free copy to read? If so all we would ask is to consider leaving an honest review of it.
If you would like a free copy comment below and we will contact you to arrange sending a free copy in PDF format.
We will follow up in a few weeks time and if you are happy for us to share a direct link for the reviews I would be most appreciative.
As a taster we have added a preview of the book below.
You can also check out the first chapter of the Novella in comic form in our Sweet Nightmare’s Ezine - click HERE
Thanks as always and stay safe out there!
CHAPTER XII
The smoke rises gently as a pretty young Filipino girl dressed in tight black jeans and an equally tight crop top that accentuates her assets, pulls deep on a vape and exhales a large cloud of vanilla flavoured vapour. She rests against a large desk in a laboratory, the lights low so she can enjoy the sight of the smoke glowing as shafts of luminosity hit it. She would regularly use this spot as a place where she can relax and hide from her cleaning job, a job she always felt was somewhat beneath her. After all, a sexy young thing like her could easily become a model if she was not stuck in this rundown town at the far reaches of North Devon. One day she would see her name LELAIN up in lights in some far off metropolis like London, or at least on the side of a bus.
Her phone beeps and she takes it out of her back pocket where it normally rest precariously and glances at it. It shows multiple missed messages and calls from Lea. Ignoring them she places it down on the side and takes a deep breath, sucking hard on her vape with her green lip-glossed lips and exhales a huge waft of water vapour, marvelling at the smoke as the light passes through it.
As the cloud dissipates her eyesight readjusts and she suddenly realises there is the outline of someone standing looking in through the frosted window of the door. The figure's shape is broken and seems to be frozen. She speaks in a slightly broken English laced with a heavy Filipino accent,‘hello? Can I be helping you?’ The shape stands there saying nothing and not moving, still like the grave.
’Hello? Are you lost?’ she asks again and the figure slowly moves away from the door, the frosted glass further warping it until it disappears. Lelian tenses looking at the door as though the silhouette might return. Jumping out of her skin as her phone buzzes again loudly and falls off the table, she curses in Filipino ‘Tae!’ Turning and bending over she quickly picks the phone up. Spinning back around to the door again, the shape is still nowhere to be seen. Sighing, she examines her phone, wiping the crap off her slightly chipped and cracked screen. Abruptly the door slides open, making her jump again. The door stands open and ominous.
Looking quickly around the room she is filled with a sense of trepidation that she might not be alone, but It appears empty as she peers into the darkness, wishing she had put the bright neon lights on before.
‘Hello?’ she meekly asks but there is no reply as Lelain tenses, waiting for someone or something to enter. Nothing appears.
Slowly she moves forward to the door and holding it she looks out into the corridor. It is dimly lit and empty in both directions. All she can hear is the gentle rumble of the air filtration system and so she steps back from the door and looking down at the side panel flicks the neon lights on.
They clunk loudly, suddenly brightening the room causing her eyes to adapt to the influx of light and she barely catches a glimpse of the twisted creature advancing fast towards her.
